The 2012 Meursault Village is my pick of his village crus even though it suffered the most acute reduction in crop. Leroux usually sources the cuvee from the climat of Crutot but this year it is blended with the 160 liters of Meursault Narvaux that was too small to handle the wood maturation. It has a delicate, floral bouquet with wilted petals, limestone and Alpine stream scents that are (again) very well-defined. The palate is crisp and beautifully balanced on the entry with subtle notes of white peach, apricot and quince, segueing into a spicy finish that fans out wonderfully. This punches well above its weight and will drink beautifully over the next 8 to 10 years. |

The 2010 Gevrey-Chambertin shows lovely energy and focus in its dark red cherries, plums, flowers, spices and mint. I very much like the focus and overall sense of harmony. The Gevrey is a blend of three-quarters Les Seuvrees and one-quarter La Justice. It is a pretty, rewarding wine to drink over the next few years. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020. |

The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin is a mid-weight, delicate wine laced with hints of mint and crushed flowers that add complexity to the perfumed fruit. It is a very pretty Gevrey-Chambertin at the villages level. This is a blend of Seuvrees and Etelois, two lieu-dits on the Morey side of Gevrey. Tasted from tank. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. |

The 2009 Mazoyeres-Chambertin is breathtaking. The bouquet alone is dazzling,
but then the layers of fruit hit the palate in a stunning display of class
and elegance. Mint, crushed flowers and the silkiest of tannins round out
the eternal finish. A recent bottle of the 2008 was equally impressive.

The 2009 Bonnes Mares is a tightly-coiled, inward wine, which is not surprising
since Leroux’s fruit comes from the terres blanches sector of the vineyard.
Today the Bonnes Mares is cool and intensely mineral yet it possesses dazzling
balance. All this needs is time for the layers of fruit to start filling
out. It is hugely impressive. Tasted from barrel. Anticipated maturity:
2017-2029. |
